A Discord QR code turns your invite into a scan so newcomers join before they forget. The part that matters most happens in Discord, though: an invite that expires after seven days, Discord's default, will leave your printed code pointing at nothing.

How to make it

  1. In Discord, create an invite and set 'Expire after' to Never and 'Max number of uses' to No limit.
  2. Paste the link or code into the Invite link or code field.
  3. Check that the preview shows discord.gg/yourcode.
  4. Download, then scan it from a phone that isn't already in the server to see the real join screen.

What gets encoded

The encoded payload is https://discord.gg/<invite code>, whichever form you pasted. With the Discord app installed, phones usually open the invite in the app with an Accept button; otherwise the browser shows Discord's web invite page. The code itself never changes, but its lifetime is controlled by the server's invite settings, so a code created with an expiry date or use limit stops working when either runs out. Servers with a vanity URL (Boost Level 3 or partnered) can use that code for an easy-to-read invite.

Tips before you print

  • Always create a non-expiring invite for print; Discord's default expiry is seven days.

FAQ

My Discord QR code says the invite is invalid. Why?

The invite probably expired or hit its use limit. Create a new invite set to never expire and regenerate the code.

Do people need the Discord app?

No. Without it, the invite opens in the browser, where they can join through Discord's web client.

Can I use a vanity URL?

Yes. Enter the vanity code (the part after discord.gg/) and it's encoded the same way.
