Facebook Messenger QR Code Generator
For many small businesses, Messenger is where customers actually ask questions: 'Are you open today?', 'Do you have this in a medium?', 'Can I book for Saturday?'. A Messenger QR code on your shop window, delivery bags, product packaging or a printed ad opens a chat with your page in one scan, with no searching for the page first. Enter your page's username (the part after facebook.com/) and QRPebble builds the official m.me link. You can also add a short pre-filled message, such as 'I'd like to book a table', which Messenger places in the text box for pages so the customer only has to press send. It also gives you a way to tell which printed piece a conversation came from.
Static code: the data is encoded directly, so it never expires and is not tracked. Need to change the link after printing or count scans? Create a free dynamic code.
How to make it
- Find your page's username in its URL (facebook.com/yourpage) or under Page settings.
- Enter it in the username field; a pasted m.me or facebook.com link also works.
- Optionally add a short pre-filled message.
- Download it and scan with a phone that has Messenger to check the chat opens with your page.
What gets encoded
The payload is https://m.me/<username>, or https://m.me/<username>?text=<message> with a pre-filled message. On phones with Messenger it opens a conversation in the app; without it, it opens messenger.com or Facebook in the browser, where the person may need to log in. Pre-filled text is supported for business pages; personal profiles may ignore it. Pages without a custom username have a numeric ID only, so claim a username in Page settings first. Keep pre-filled messages short, because every character adds density to the pattern.
Where people use it
- Shop windows with 'Message us' for questions after hours
- Delivery bags and packaging for reorders and support
- Printed ads and flyers where a chat converts better than a website
- Event stands collecting enquiries
Tips before you print
- Turn on Messenger instant replies for your page so scanners get an immediate answer.
- Use a different pre-filled message per flyer or location to see which one people used.
- If your audience mostly uses WhatsApp, put a WhatsApp code next to it.
FAQ
Does the pre-filled message work for personal profiles?
It's designed for pages. Personal profiles may open the chat without the text.
My page has no username. What now?
Create one in Page settings. m.me links need a username.
Do people need the Messenger app?
No, but without it they'll be sent to messenger.com or Facebook in the browser and may need to log in.
