Bitcoin Payment QR Code Generator

Bitcoin addresses are long, case-sensitive strings that nobody should type by hand. A Bitcoin QR code lets a payer's wallet read your address, and optionally the amount, directly from a screen or printout. QRPebble builds a BIP21 payment URI, the format wallets have long used for exactly this. It accepts native SegWit (bc1…), P2SH (3…) and legacy (1…) addresses. Add an amount in BTC for an invoice, or a label so the payer's wallet shows who they are paying. Everything happens in your browser, and QRPebble never sees or stores your keys. Only a public receiving address goes into the code.

How to make it

  1. Paste your receiving address into the Bitcoin address field, copied from your wallet, never typed.
  2. Optionally add an Amount in BTC (up to 8 decimals) and a Label such as your shop name.
  3. Compare the first and last six characters of the preview's address with your wallet.
  4. Download, then scan with your own wallet app and cancel at the confirmation step to prove it reads correctly.

What gets encoded

The payload follows BIP21: bitcoin:<address>, with ?amount=<BTC>&label=<text> added when you fill those fields, e.g. bitcoin:bc1q…?amount=0.0015&label=Coffee. Amounts are in BTC, not satoshis. Most Bitcoin wallets parse BIP21 and prefill the recipient and amount. A few only read the address and ignore the parameters, so payers should always check the amount before sending. Phone camera apps may not know the bitcoin: scheme and may only show the text, so the code is meant to be scanned from inside a wallet.

Tips before you print

  • Bitcoin payments are irreversible. Verify the address on the printed proof, not just on screen, before displaying it.
  • For privacy, many wallets generate a fresh address per payment; a permanently printed address links all its payments together.
  • Use error-correction level M or higher; bc1 addresses plus an amount still fit comfortably at 3 cm.
  • Check public displays regularly for stickers placed over your code.

FAQ

Is it safe to share my Bitcoin address as a QR code?

Sharing a receiving address is normal; it can only receive funds. Never put a private key or seed phrase in any QR code.

Why doesn't my phone camera open a wallet?

Some camera apps don't recognise the bitcoin: scheme. Open your wallet and use its built-in scanner instead.

Does it support Lightning invoices?

No. This generator builds on-chain BIP21 URIs only.
