How to track QR code scans from flyers

If you print one identical code across every channel, the scan total cannot tell which flyer performed. Give each distribution batch its own destination and label your campaign before printing.

Set it up

  1. Create a mobile landing page with one action and add UTM parameters such as utm_source=flyer and utm_campaign=summer_open_house.
  2. Create a separate dynamic URL code for each location or print batch and record which code went where.
  3. Scan a proof, confirm the landing page and campaign parameters, then compare scan trends with site analytics and actual conversions.

What to encode

Use the full campaign URL as the destination of the dynamic short link. The printed code encodes QRPebble's short redirect, keeping a long UTM URL out of the pattern.

Print size and contrast

Print a sample flyer with a dark, at least 3 cm code on a plain light block and leave the margin intact. Thin paper can show printing from the reverse side, so inspect the final stock.

Where to place it

Put it beside a specific instruction such as 'Scan for the offer' and near the offer details, not buried in legal copy. Include a short text URL for accessibility.

Common mistakes

  • Scans are not unique people, signups or purchases.
  • One shared code cannot attribute scans to distinct neighborhoods.
  • Test the final printed flyer after adding crop marks and design overlays.

When to use a dynamic code

Dynamic QR codes are the practical choice when you need per-code scan analytics, CSV export on a paid plan or a destination you can change during a campaign. Static URLs can use UTM tags for website visits, but QRPebble cannot count their scans. Compare plans to match your code count.

FAQ

Are scan counts equal to website sessions?

No. Multiple scans, browser behavior and analytics consent can make counts differ. Compare both systems rather than treating either as conversions.

Can I export scans to CSV?

CSV export is available on paid plans. The free account shows recent analytics for its dynamic codes.
