Use a QR code on a real estate sign

A passerby needs the specific property's photos, price, open-house time and contact information. Sending them to a generic brokerage homepage makes them search again.

Set it up

  1. Publish the individual listing with a responsive photo gallery and current contact details.
  2. Paste that listing URL into the URL generator and download an SVG for the sign printer.
  3. Scan a print proof from the sidewalk at the viewing distance and again after the sign is installed.

What to encode

Link to the property listing or a dedicated open-house page with the address visibly confirmed. A Google Maps QR opens directions, not the listing; use it only if directions are the intended action.

Print size and contrast

For a sign viewed from about 1 m, begin at 8–10 cm wide; increase it for greater distance. Use a high-contrast block on a flat matte area, not over the listing photo.

Where to place it

Place the code at reachable height beside 'Scan for photos and viewing times', never beside a road where stopping to scan is unsafe. Show a short URL for manual access.

Common mistakes

  • A sold listing that disappears creates a dead end on a reusable sign.
  • An agent's personal URL may change before the sign comes down.
  • A small glossy code can fail in bright outdoor sun.

When to use a dynamic code

A dynamic code can redirect a reusable sign to a current listing or an honest 'sold' page and count scans. Do not silently send someone expecting one property to an unrelated one. For a one-off stable listing, static is simpler.

FAQ

Can a sign code be reused after a sale?

Only a dynamic URL code can change the destination without reprinting. Clearly label any reused sign so the destination matches the advertised property.

Will scans identify prospective buyers?

No. Scan analytics count opens and broad device/location data; they do not collect a visitor's contact details.
